Message to Britain: Fuck Your Pensions

Okay Britain, we’ll stop complaining about the destruction of the Gulf and its coastal areas, because we all know that your fucking investment-backed pensions, many of which depend on the financial success of BP, are far more important.

The funny thing is, I haven’t heard a single person I know base their criticism of BP on anti-British sentiment, or use it as an excuse to bash the Brits. Most Americans, as uninformed as they tend to be, probably aren’t even aware that BP is a British corporation. The idea that Americans would somehow be less pissed about this if it were an American company is absolutely fucking absurd. The Exxon-Valdez disaster, an oil spill perpetrated by an American oil company, is the first thing we recalled when news of the BP spill came to light.

Assuming that the sentiment portrayed in the NYT article (linked above) is accurate, what the Brits need to do is stop being so fucking defensive and self-serving. We have an entire sea full of oil, and a bunch of people who work those coasts essentially jobless and fucked probably for years, if not decades (except for those who’ve been given work cleaning up the oil, thanks BP!). These are people who don’t have investment-backed pensions to draw on when their fishing businesses go belly up due to completely avoidable oil spills and shit like that.

So in summary, we don’t give a shit that BP is a British corporation. But we’re going to start giving a shit if you try to shield their asses from liability, in any way, for what they fucking did to the Gulf and its coasts. BP doesn’t deserve glowing reviews from the American public and its media just because some of your fucking pensions are on the line over it.

‘Nuff said.

(And obviously, if you’re a British person who doesn’t think or feel any of that shit portrayed in the NYT article, you are clearly a decent human being, and this is not directed toward you.)
